Officer Susan Beckler is enjoying a relatively quiet life until a violent act shatters the fabric of her small Memphis suburb.
On a routine call on a crisp fall day, her mentor, Sergeant Phil Marsden, kills Elijah Daniel, an unarmed black teen. As Susan and her adopted niece, Hannah, struggle to make sense of what’s happened, they uncover a series of truths and lies that will forever change their small town.
